Step 1 · About 2 weeks before move-in
Plan the move-out clean at the old place
Renters: check your lease for what "clean" means. That is deposit money. Decide DIY versus hiring; movers-out cleans book up at month-end. Schedule it for after the truck is loaded.
Step 2 · When you get the keys, before the furniture arrives
Clean the new place while it's still empty
The one time cleaning is easy: no furniture. Floors, cabinets inside, bathroom, fridge. If you're hiring, book the slot between possession and furniture arrival.
Step 3 · The week before move-in
Book the cleaner or block your own cleaning time
Either way it goes on the calendar. If hiring, record the confirmation and what's included. A "basic clean" quote often excludes inside-appliances.
Step 4 · The day you hand back the old place
Final sweep and photos at the old place
After it's empty and clean: photograph every room, then hand back the keys. Those photos are your deposit insurance.
