Utilities
Stop, start, or transfer electric, gas, water, and trash on the right dates.
Step 1 · About 3 weeks before move-in
List every utility at both addresses
Electric, gas, water/sewer, trash. Find the provider for the new address. The city, your landlord, or your agent can tell you. Note account numbers for the old ones.
Step 2 · About 2 weeks before move-in
Schedule service start at the new place
Start date = your possession or move-in date, not the day after. Some providers need a deposit or ID check. Ask what's required to avoid a same-day surprise. Record each confirmation number.
Step 3 · About 2 weeks before move-in
Schedule service stop or transfer at the old place
Stop date = the day after you're fully out (you'll want lights while cleaning). Ask for a final bill at the forwarding address.
Step 4 · The week before move-in
Verify the start dates match your move-in
Read the confirmations back: if power starts the day after you arrive, one call now fixes what would be a dark first night.
Step 5 · Right before or on move-in day
Photograph the meters at the new place on day one
Same habit as the old place: one dated photo per meter, so your first bill starts from the right number.
Your dates change the order. MoveNara puts every step above on your calendar, next to the other services, and it tracks what's actually confirmed, not just requested.
